Dhanush’s OM Telugu Business Details Are Out

The business details of Dhanush’s OM in the Telugu states are now out. Sithara Entertainments, which is releasing the film in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, has struck the deal on a recoverable advance of ₹7 Cr.

OM Telugu States Deal

  • Distributor: Sithara Entertainments
  • Territory: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
  • Deal Type: Recoverable advance
  • Amount: ₹7 Cr
  • Breakeven Gross: ₹15 Cr

What a Recoverable Advance Means

In a recoverable advance deal, the distributor pays the producer an amount upfront, which is then recovered from the film’s theatrical share. If the film’s share falls short of the advance, the producer returns the balance to the distributor.

That makes it a safer deal for the distributor than an outright purchase, and it also shows the producers’ confidence in the film.

The Target in the Telugu States

To recover the ₹7 Cr advance, OM will need to collect around ₹7 Cr share in the Telugu states, which works out to roughly ₹15 Cr gross. That’s a very achievable target if the film gets positive word of mouth.

Why It’s a Smart Deal

At ₹7 Cr, the deal is reasonable for a film with this kind of cast. Dhanush has a strong market in the Telugu states, and his bilingual Sir, produced by Sithara Entertainments, was a big hit there.

The film also has Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela, two heroines with huge Telugu followings, along with Mammootty in a pivotal role. And director Rajkumar Periasamy’s last film, Amaran, did very well in the Telugu states.

All these factors give OM strong potential to perform well, and to clear its Telugu target comfortably.

Release on November 20

OM Chapter 1: Rudhiram, The Blood Wood releases in theatres on November 20. The film is set against the world of red sandalwood, a backdrop familiar to Telugu audiences.

With a reasonable deal and a strong distributor behind it, OM is set for a good release in the Telugu states.
